We stay on the exterior, which is how the details that decide a job (flashing, reveals, trim returns) end up right.

Marek, owner of SmardBuild, at the SmardBuild office

Meet Marek, SmardBuild's owner.

Marek started in the trades in 2000 and founded SmardBuild in 2006. The houses we work on are houses he drives past, and he treats them that way.

When something is off, there is one person accountable for it, and he is not hard to reach. That is most of what people are actually buying when they hire a family-owned company.

What to look at on a finished house.

A siding job looks much the same on day one whether or not it was done right. These four details are where the difference shows up later, and where we spend the extra hours.

Flashing and weather protection

Flashing and weather protection

Head flashing, kickouts and taped seams go in before anything decorative. Water gets a path out of the wall instead of into it.

Clean reveals and transitions

Clean reveals and transitions

Consistent exposure course to course, and honest transitions where materials meet. It's what makes a wall read as one plane.

Window caulking and trim

Window caulking and trim

The right sealant in the right joint, tooled properly. Wrong caulk in the wrong gap is the most common reason a new window still drafts.

Trim returns and finished edges

Trim returns and finished edges

Returns wrapped rather than cut off square, and end grain sealed. Edges are where paint fails first.

Our process.

Four steps, from the first walkthrough to the last one.

Homeowners on their own projects.

Two years ago when we moved in, we definitely did not like the exterior of our house, but now we can proudly say that we love where we live.

What stands behind the work.

Years of experience20+

Marek has worked in the trades since 2000. The judgment calls on an older house come from having made them before.

Family-owned since2006

The same family has run SmardBuild for two decades. The person who quotes the job is accountable for it.

Labor guaranteeIn writing

Our workmanship is covered by a written labor guarantee, separate from the manufacturer warranties on the materials themselves.

Common questions.

If yours is not here, ask when we walk the house.

How long does a siding project take?

Most houses take one to two weeks on site, depending on size, the material, and how much trim work goes with it. We give you a start date and a realistic finish date before the job begins, not a range that keeps moving.

Do you handle permits?

Yes. We pull the permits and schedule the inspections for every municipality we work in, and the cost is stated in the estimate rather than added later.

What does the estimate include?

Materials named by brand and product, quantities, labor, permits, disposal, and one price. If something is excluded, it says so on the same page.

Will you work with my insurance claim?

We do. We can meet the adjuster on site, document the damage, and provide a scope written the way carriers expect to see it.

Can you match the siding on an addition or repair?

Usually. Matching depends on how old the existing siding is and whether the profile is still made. We will tell you honestly when a clean match is not possible and what the alternatives look like.

What happens if something goes wrong after the job?

Call the office and we come back. Workmanship is covered by our labor guarantee, and material defects fall under the manufacturer warranty, which we help you file.

Let's talk about your house.

An hour on site, an honest look at what needs doing, and an exterior you'll be glad to see at the end of the driveway.
